Track #4: Around Town Medley, Part One

There was a whole lotta love in the room for Carlos “Big Daddy” Adley’s “1st Annual Virgo Charity Bash” benefitting the “Vegas Stronger” organization at Backstage Bar & Billiards. That’s the downtown Vegas club he and his wife Ava Berman own, along with the adjoining Fremont Country Club. Carlos got on the mic as a singer throughout the night with an array of artists, including a spot with a mariachi band that brought the house down. One of Carlos’ birthday requests was for fiery guitarist Micki Free to perform—and Micki obliged by stunningly playing his signature interpretation of Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” backed by two other ace Vegas-based musicians, drummer Les Warner (the Cult) and bassist Jon Stenber.

Dumplings and, well, “hot noods” here. (Image: Vegas 411)

Happy to see the folks who owned the former Chinglish at Boca Park thriving with their relatively new Hot Noods eatery downtown at the El Cortez Hotel Casino. Thumbs up for the “Poh Poh’s Dumplings” with chive and mushroom (crafted by Chef Po Fai Lam), which I enjoyed during a quick visit. It’s terrific to have another restaurant downtown specializing in Pan-Asian food. I’m already mad for the Pan-Asian delights at Circa’s 8 East. And don’t forget the Asian treats at the new buzzy restaurant/bar/social club Pachi Pachi (corner of 6th and Carson).
