Las Vegas Mixtape v40: Alien Rave, Vegas’ Second Chinatown, and Consignment Deals

Multi-armed aliens, black pepper beef, a neon-pink monkey, and $1.99 margaritas. All this and more in Mixtape v40 courtesy of columnist Mitchell Scheider for VEGAS 411.

Track #5: Around Town Medley:

The meanest world leaders would be less mean if they tasted this. (Image: Vegas 411)

What does the world need more of besides peace and love? May I suggest trying the juicy fried chicken & fluffy waffles—not to mention the blackened catfish with shrimp and dirty rice—courtesy of Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles on Flamingo near Paradise Rd?

All hail the humble roots of Lo-Lo’s.  (Image: Vegas 411)

If you’re going to a show at The Theater at Virgin Hotels or the Copa Room at Tuscany Suites, Lo-Lo’s is a smart and soulful spot to have dinner and enjoy cool R&B grooves on their sound system like “You Rock My World” by Michael Jackson and “Just Friends (Sunny)” by Musiq Soulchild.

Yep, the price is right. (Image: Vegas 411)

Station Casinos knows how to play the game. Months ago, they introduced their price-busting 24/7 $5.99 cheeseburger-and-fries special. Now they’re offering another 24/7 deal that’s hard to pass up: a margarita for only (drumroll, please) $1.99, with an extra shot for $2.00. I enjoyed one inside Red Rock Resort at the bar adjacent to Lotus of Siam, Naxos Taverna, and the Oyster Bar. Instead of ordering another drink and feeding the bar-top gaming machines, I texted friends about this unbelievable bargain, which should help lure more visitors to Vegas and offset the bad press that the city has been getting about high costs.

The stimulation of a simple Margherita pizza (done right) is not to be underestimated. (Image: Vegas 411)

I have so many favorite Italian restaurants in Summerlin and the adjacent areas; it’s truly an embarrassment of riches. Casting my guilt aside over which one to choose, I dropped into Limoncello—a standalone building on West Sahara with a sweeping, stylish interior—to celebrate a family anniversary.

The lobster ravioli, sautéed with shrimp and zucchini in a light brandy sauce, is a scene-stealer. (Image: Vegas 411)

Limoncello’s food reliably fired on all cylinders. We started with their Margherita pizza and Caesar salad, segueing into the chicken parm, gnocchi with eggplant, and lobster ravioli. This is Italian food that satisfyingly merges the traditional with modern flair. No way could we leave without ordering their dreamy crème brûlée.

Tipping my hat to Limoncello founder Giuseppe Bavarese and his staff, who give their guests the warmest embrace. They don’t forget that Vegas is the capital of hospitality.
