Some say that immersive digital experiences don’t properly honor the importance of an artist’s work like museum exhibitions do.

And while there’s an argument for that, you can’t deny the visual thrill of watching the colorful floor-to-ceiling digital projections at the new, “reimagined” edition of “Immersive Van Gogh: The Next Chapter.” A visit to this art-and-technology celebration of Vincent Van Gogh’s work—which opened back in April at the Lighthouse ArtSpace on Level 3 at The Shops at Crystals—is certainly more convenient and inexpensive than journeying to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Over 140 of Van Gogh’s masterpieces are creatively woven into this visual extravaganza that also has a musical soundtrack. Images of his landscape and still-life paintings unfold magically in a massive space where you’re free to walk around or sit down. Why not try laying down for the full immersion effect?

The production engagingly tells the story of Van Gogh’s life, including the time he spent in Paris, and his horrible mental torment. He not only famously cut off his ear at one point but died in 1890 at 37 by shooting himself in the chest. In case you’re wondering, the sound of a gunshot is eerily incorporated into the presentation.
