Before every airline flight, we're told that should the need arise, secure your oxygen masks before assisting others. Unfortunately, that logic is often ignored in everyday life. People are so concerned with careers and providing for others that our personal needs get pushed into the background. It's no coincidence that financially successful individuals make spa visits a part of their regular care. You might think that having the funds to do so is the catalyst...which isn't necessarily correct. To achieve success, you must first be at your best, which demands having a healthy body and a clear mind. Spas are an essential part of that, and always worth the expense.

JW Marriott's SPA AQUAE is a serene, solid treasure waiting to be discovered in Summerlin, the fast-growing section of western Las Vegas. Located next to Rampart Casino, SPA AQUAE is convenient to access, and is the perfect place for locals and visitors to enjoy a "day-cation".

As a representative of VEGAS 411, this writer was invited to tour the facility and experience a few of SPA AQUAE's many amenities. What I found was a veritable oasis in the desert. It's a place where mind, body, and spirit are drenched in an atmosphere of positivity and pampering...without the pretension and "exclusivity" that many Strip-based spas exude.

SPA AQUAE is located along a calming corridor that connects JW Marriott to Rampart Casino. It's easy to get to via JW Marriott's free valet (Rampart Casino's self-parking is a bit of a walk). Along the way, you'll pass an ornate fountain that leads to Gentlemen's Tonic Barbershop, which we'll visit in a follow-up piece.

Creamy beige-brown tones and subdued lighting set a calming tone as you leave the world behind and enter the SPA AQUAE facility. The lobby doubles as a retail center where you can purchase high-quality products for home use. Appointments are required for spa services such as massages, facials, and hair and body treatments. To the right of the retail center is The Salon, which offers haircuts, hair coloring, manicures, pedicures, make-up applications, and special-event styling. To the rear is a well-equipped Fitness Center that boasts the latest in resistance training and cardiovascular equipment, including the coveted Peloton brand.

All Las Vegas residents can enjoy the convenience and luxury of Spa Aquae Fitness Memberships. They are available in monthly or 3-month packages that offer a variety of discounts on products and services. And you get to exercise while enjoying the view of waterfalls, a gorgeous hydrotherapy circuit pool, and the Hydra Lounge. The fitness center is open from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. daily.

Once you've checked in for your appointment, you'll be escorted to the corresponding area. Those scheduled for spa or barbershop treatments enjoy the perk of a day pass to the Hydra Lounge. This includes access to either the men's or ladies' locker rooms, spa robes, sandals, showers, steam room, sauna, cascading waterfall shower (a personal favorite), warm float pool, hot and cold plunges, a calming relaxation area, and fully-stocked showers.

The gender-specific spa areas are joined in the middle by the Hydra Lounge. Think of it as a beach club minus the deejay and rowdy antics. It's quite the opposite, really. Sunning loungers, day beds, and small and large booths (available for an additional fee) overlook a cascading waterfall and the aforementioned circuit pool.

A circuit pool is designed for light calisthenics, water aerobics, and laps. There's an adjacent hot tub, great for recovery and a little socializing. Food and drinks can be ordered while enjoying the Hydra Lounge. Smoking is prohibited, as are loud phone conversations, photo-taking, and telephone ringers. You're here to escape the world, so privacy is encouraged. In part two, we'll head to SPA AQUAE's second level, where twenty-six treatment rooms and a team of highly skilled professionals take your mind and body on a journey like no other.
