In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday.
But, like many other communities, Las Vegas has celebrated Juneteenth for decades with festivals and performance art. The 2024 Juneteenth celebrations began on June 1 when the Juneteenth flag was raised at the Las Vegas' Historic Westside Legacy Park. Two days later, the city raised Juneteenth flags at Henderson City Hall and Las Vegas City Hall.
The biggest celebrations kick off on June 15 and run until June 19.
Here's what going on for Juneteenth in Las Vegas.
E.L.E.V.A.T.E. is the emotional highlight of the 2024 Las Vegas Juneteenth Experience. Community leaders, esteemed professionals, and other popular speakers will meet for a six-hour educational resource summit. The motto for the event is: "Empowering Lives, Enhancing Vitality, & Transforming Economics in the Black Community."
Organizers want to use the Juneteenth platform to empower the African American community by providing knowledge and resources.
Las Vegas will hold its 23rd annual Juneteenth Festival at the World Market Center this year. The one-day cultural event started small and has since become very popular, attracting thousands of people. This year, festival-goers will enjoy live performances, a market, and plenty of food options.
Some of the top restaurants and eateries that will be present at the festival include:
